Cylas Fox Teach

Classroom Layout
The layout for our classroom was we had rows of tables in the front of the room, and then a rectangular table set up in the background (pictured right).

The rows of tables at the front were for the instruction section of the lessons, and then we reinforced our routine by having them move to the back of the room when it was worktime for their projects.

World Building
Below are the breakdowns of the 5 different weeks of instruction within the Saturday art classes.

Ceramic Bobble Heads
We had the students design their own characters and then make ceramic bobble heads using pinch pots and premade (by us) bodies!

Stop Motion
The students filmed stop motion videos using the bobblehead, diorama, and food. They used the app stop motion studio.

Dioramas
We had the students use found objects and cardboard boxes to create a diorama of the world that they envisioned their characters working in.

Squishies/Underglaze
We had the students carve and paint foam into the shape of whatever food their character would eat, as well as under glazing their bobbleheads between layers of their paint drying.

Still Life
In the last lesson they made still life paintings of their characters in the world they built, using water color and colored pencils.
Ceramic Bobble heads
We had our students create their own character ideas, as the first lesson for our worldbuilding unit because we wanted them to have a starting point to build their whole world off of. We started this lesson by talking about what they liked in certain cartoon character designs, and then they sketched out their character ideas on paper. Once they decided what they wanted to create, they made the characters head out of a pinch pot, which we demonstrated how to do, to introduce them to ceramics techniques. They also were able to adjust/add to premade ceramic bodies to go with their characters.

Lesson 4:
This lesson we had students build on everything they had already made, using their bobble heads, their food, and their diorama they had to film a stop motion video where their characters performed an action in the world they created. We thought this would help with their idea of worldbuilding because they are able to see their character and their world in tandem.
